Yuri Gagarin Summary: Yuri Gagarin was an ordinary boy who was born into a dangerous time. The Nazi’s invaded his home, town and country but he was fortunate to come through the experience.

He decided to join the Soviet Union Air Force at a time when space travel was in its infancy and would be talented enough to be chosen for the first Soviet Space Program.

He would also beat out all of his rivals to be chosen as the first human being to enter space and orbit the earth.

Yuri Gagarin Fact 1: Yuri Gagarin was born on March 9th 1934 during the 20th century and a time of massive upheaval globally, huge strides were made in technology, engineering and the sciences.

Yuri Gagarin Fact 2: His early life was hugely disrupted when the Nazi’s occupied his town as well as his home. His older brother and sister were sent to Poland to work in the slave labor camps. They did return after the war.
